After losing, he decides not to go back to Radiator Springs with his friends and instead stay in France with Cruz Ramirez and Sterling at a hotel with their father's money. Mater, who was told to leave by Sheriff, goes out for a night of fun with his friends. This interrups Jackson Storm's show, causing him to chase Mater through the streets of Paris. Mater gets into a fight with Jackson Storm after being provoked. Mater is then forced into prison by the French police, but he escapes at night with help from Holley Shiftwell.
